A book for religious and spiritual inspiration. The stories collected by Martin Buber from the world of Eastern European Judaism captivate with their wisdom, humor, and lived religiosity. On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the significant religious scholar's death on June 13, 2015, Buber's most popular work is being released in a lovingly edited anniversary edition. Hasidism, the religious movement of Eastern European Jews that emerged in the 18th century, has produced a wealth of legendary tales. Partly oral and partly written down, these stories long had no claim to literary validity. It is Buber's merit not only to have collected them but also to have shaped them linguistically and philosophically categorized them. He personally compiled the volume "The Tales of the Hasidim" for the Manesse Verlag in 1949.
