This multifaceted book by Manfred Pernice reflects on an exhibition at the Museum Ludwig in 2007. There, he combined his early work "Bibette head-land" from 1999 with a revised and refined piece created specifically for the "Haldensleben" exhibition in 2005, as well as the sculpture "Hotel Hangelar," which was exhibited for the first time in 2007. These three large-scale, partially walk-in sculptures reference the architecture of bunkers, airport control towers, or small-town settlements. Today, seven years later, it is clear that they occupy a central position in the artist's oeuvre. They encapsulate Pernice's years of work on the historical and sociopolitical relationships between architecture and everyday aesthetics. His sculptures also assert themselves despite their connection to reality and their porous character.
