Study paper from 2018 in the field of law - civil law, commercial law, corporate law, antitrust law, economic law, grade: 1.3, Hochschule Aschaffenburg, language: German.

Abstract: The paper deals with the topic of stock market manipulation. It begins with a precise definition of terms and distinctions. The reader is then provided with an overview of the various types of market manipulation according to Article 12(1) MAR. Following this, the paper discusses the legal consequences in the form of penalties and sanctions.

Finally, a practical example is presented, which, due to the relevance of the new version, still refers to the previous one. "Am considering taking Tesla private at $420." This was the tweet from Tesla CEO Elon Musk on August 7, 2018, at 12:48 PM on the social media platform Twitter. A message that would prove to be quite troublesome for him, as became evident three weeks after its release. The impact of the message was reflected in a surge in Tesla's stock price. Initially, this did not seem very concerning. However, this Twitter message was deemed an attempted illegal market manipulation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The end of the story is that Elon Musk has to pay a fine of $40 million. Additionally, he must forgo his position as chairman of the board for a period of three years.
