Product details

There is no longer a political left. As a historically independent force, it has long since disappeared. Those who today call themselves "left" merely announce that they will demand even more stubbornly what everyone else is already demanding. Neither the world-saving claims of the "68ers" nor the alarmist rhetoric about "endangered democracy" could effectively shape politics. What remains is only the "third jargon," which incessantly indoctrinates us with concepts like "self-realization," "authenticity," "emancipation," "equality," and "diversity." Everything seems tangible. The appealing slogans guide us into an existence devoid of origin, homeland, posterity, and transcendence. Here, they degenerate into mere traffic rules. They prevent precisely what they promise: encounters, determination, realization, individuality, meaningfulness, presence, and community. This "jargon of openness to the world" does not lead to the Other but into nothingness. It keeps us trapped in a state of provisionality: everything seems tangible, yet nothing is attainable. The third jargon is self-sufficient. The glorification of Western value ideas such as "boundlessness," "equal opportunities," or "tolerance" does not liberate people; rather, it robs them of the social dimension of life. In the end, the market-conforming individual is forced to commodify themselves. To ensure that no one discriminates against others anymore, only measurable performances are to be exchanged. This economization of life is a progress into emptiness, a glide into indifference. Frank Böckelmann warns emphatically against the exhausting monotony of Western discourse.
