September 1926: Henry Beston moves into a small wooden house by the sea, which he had built the year before to spend his holidays there. Two weeks were planned, but he remains a whole year; a year in which he lets his environment have an effect on him, investigates it and learns to understand it in this way. Beston records all his observations in notebooks, describing what he has seen and experienced in colour and detail: the migration of seabirds, the rhythm of ebb and flow, the shapes of the dunes and waves, the sounds of the surf and even the change of smells over the seasons.
