Product details

Maria Lassnig (1919-2014) - one of the most important painters of the 20th century - created an extensive body of paintings, drawings and films over the course of her life. The "body feeling painting" she developed, which is linked to phenomenological and epistemological explanatory models, long attracted the greatest attention. However, little is known about the fact that the Austrian artist also wrote hundreds of pages of notebooks and loose sheets of paper throughout her life and not only designed dresses and costumes, but also sewed and wore them herself. What has hardly been investigated so far is that she taught and photographed (or posed for photographs) as well as conducting cognitive experiments with the writer and language theorist Oswald Wiener and then painting watercolour drawings in grid form.
In this book, Claire Hoffmann traces all these byways in Maria Lassnig's work. She thus opens up a holistic view of a great artist who emerges as a versatile, agile person, who combined her experiences with the most diverse media and strategies and who was able to utilise various media and influences in the most diverse tones.
