Product details
This study from 1869 deals with the history of German fishing in the waters of the Arctic. Given the early signs of overfishing, the exploration of new grounds had already been of great importance in previous centuries. Traditionally, whalers played a pioneering role in this, as they were more susceptible than others to the gold rush of the seas and bravely faced the great dangers of the North Sea. After a long hesitation, the Germans - led by the Bremer - also joined in, which naturally led to problems with other maritime nations due to the overall declining yields. This book narrates the long and eventful history of German Arctic fishing in a way that is both exciting and vivid.
