This work tells the story of the first trade expedition to India with German involvement. The book outlines the initial situation and the course of the journey, starting with a description of the Indian trade before the discovery of the sea route and the connection of the southern German trading houses to Portugal. It discusses the preparations for the expedition and provides an exact chronological account up to the return journey, as well as the results and impacts for the German merchants. The book is based on the travel reports of Balthasar Sprenger, who participated in the journey on behalf of the Augsburg trading house Welser.
