Product details
The Hamburg ship barber Friderich Martens left behind two travel accounts featuring numerous pen drawings of landscapes, plant, and animal worlds from the year 1671, detailing a voyage on a whaling ship to Spitsbergen and Greenland, as well as another sea journey to Spain. The reissued account of the Spitsbergen and Greenland journey was first printed in Hamburg in 1675. This work was translated into Italian in 1680 and 1683, into Dutch in 1685, into English in 1694, and into French in 1715; it remained an important source for Arctic researchers until the 19th century and has lost none of its fascination to this day.
