At the beginning of the 20th century, the regions of the North and South Poles are the focus of research expeditions. During this time, Wegener undertakes his first Greenland expedition under the leadership of Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen. Fascinated by Greenland, he plans further research trips to the area. His main expedition, planned for 1930 and which will also be his last, aims to provide new approaches in climate research. To observe and record the meteorological conditions in Greenland for a year, Wegener leads a pre-expedition to the Greenland ice sheet in 1929. The ascent route is explored, depots are established, initial measurements are taken, and the snowmobiles are tested. However, what has been meticulously planned and is supposed to work in theory quickly proves to be a strenuous undertaking.
