This work is based on the experiences of the late, highly successful designer and university lecturer Wolf G. Rodenacker. Using the works of his intellectual predecessors, a classification system for machines, devices, and equipment is developed and expanded into a foundational theory of machines and general design methodology. Scientists and students will find a solid grounding in design theory here, while designers will discover many useful insights.
