My experience with Western medicinal herbs began during my residency and has achieved significant success and recognition among patients in a general practice setting. In the single-volume second edition, several individual herb descriptions were added, as the specific effects of some herbs only became apparent when confronted with unusual combinations of syndromes in the practice. The use of Western medicinal herbs according to TCM criteria, such as temperature behavior, taste, transformation phases, and organ associations, as well as the description of specific effects, in my opinion, enables a targeted application of these herbs, as there are understandable patterns underlying them. Today, when describing the effects of medicinal herbs, one can not only refer to countless books spanning centuries but must also take results into account.
