This book argues and mathematically models real problems and situations from the world of sports. For instance, the question of the optimal way to clean the lines of a tennis court leads us to fundamental applications of graph theory. The question of the length of the string used to string a tennis racket connects algebra with geometry. Meanwhile, the optimal throw in basketball and the best technique for shot put take us into the realm of analysis. Mathematical modeling is also useful in soccer, as there are various ways to mathematically justify why it makes sense to play with exactly 10 field players. Additionally, the frequency of transformations during penalty shootouts can be modeled in an interesting way.
