In this book, Heide Göttner-Abendroth presents landscape mythological research using German landscapes as examples. Material relics from the Neolithic and Bronze Age cultural layers are analyzed and related to the surrounding landscape. This requires the comprehensive method of "spiritual archaeology," which the author has developed through years of intensive study both domestically and abroad. Not only statements from archaeology and geography are interrelated, but also those from mythology, folklore (traditions and customs), and linguistic research. In this sense, matriarchal landscape mythology is a subfield of tracing the remnants of early historical matriarchal cultures.
