"Bergeners" is an unusual love letter to the hometown of Tomas Espedal, nestled between mountains and fjords. The narrative begins at the extravagant Standard Hotel in New York and ends at the Askanischer Hof in Berlin, as Tomas repeatedly attempts to escape: from the commotion surrounding him after the release of Knausgård's books, from the loneliness following his girlfriend's departure, from himself. Each time, however, he returns to the place of his childhood, the location that preserves his memories. Most often, these are memories of the women the author once loved. In a way that is more intimate and immediate than ever, he shares with his loved ones - and thus with us - the story of his wild and poetic life.
