Debates about the relationship between culture and nature have found their focal point since the turn of the millennium in the concept of the Anthropocene and in alternative naming attempts such as Eurozän, Technozän, Kapitalozän, or Misanthropozän. The center of attention is the self-descriptions of humanity and its future: at a moment when science and technology seem to provide limitless control over nature, there is also a growing awareness of our complete dependence on it and the consequences of its domestication. The simultaneities, interactions, and feedback loops between nature and culture are illuminated in the texts of the biannual journal Dritte Natur. Disparate academic specialized knowledge—cultural studies insights from post- and transhumanist perspectives, from literary ecological criticism, as well as scientific research—are questioned here.
