Those who advocate for a better world, a more humane community of faith, or a more vibrant school today quickly find themselves in ambivalences that must be navigated without being able to shape them sovereignly. Globalization intensifies questions of solidarity, justice, and participation. Religions must remain faithful to their own traditions while also addressing the demands of the times. In schools and education, the increasing experience of uncertainty requires new ways of assurance, such as regarding the learning outcomes of students. The authors analyze current ambivalences, their challenges, but also their potentials, and develop forward-looking perspectives.
