The two-volume Handbook of Dogmatics is a teaching and learning resource on Catholic dogmatics, which has been profoundly renewed in the wake of the Second Vatican Council. It offers a compendium of the contents of the Christian faith as they are currently presented, considered, and described in systematic theological work. The structure largely follows the established sequence of treatises developed over a long period of teaching and study: Prolegomena, Doctrine of God, Doctrine of Creation, Christology, Pneumatology, Doctrine of Grace, Ecclesiology, Mariology, Doctrine of the Sacraments, Eschatology, Doctrine of the Trinity. This sequence of fundamental theological themes, which arises from the combination of salvation-historical and systematic-theological aspects and essentially reflects the structure and Trinitarian framework of the Credo, is difficult to surpass in its internal logic.
