The sacraments have shaped significant life transitions until just a few decades ago. Today, if they are celebrated at all, they often serve merely as beautiful decorations. In the search for reasons, the thesis of de-Christianization is quickly brought up. But does that really explain everything? For Stefan Knobloch, the crucial point is not the disinterest of people, but the way in which the sacraments are conveyed. He advocates for a new understanding of the sacraments that is based on the needs, experiences, and longings of people, taking them seriously. Only in this way can sacraments become signs of life again, signs of God's presence in the world.
