The sea and coast are among the most beautiful subjects in art. The Museum Kunst der Westküste, which opened in 2009 in Alkersum on Föhr, is dedicated to paintings created in Norway, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands over a period of 100 years, from 1830 to 1930. In addition to well-known masterpieces by Max Liebermann, including "Two Riders on the Beach" and "Hunters in the Dunes," the collection now features more recently acquired paintings, studies, and graphics that reflect Liebermann's summer stays in the Netherlands. This catalog accompanies the exhibition of the same name (February 28 - September 8, 2016), which presents new acquisitions in the context of the collection. Another focus of the collection, which relates to the painters of the famous Skagen artist colony, is represented by paintings from Christian Krohg as well as the artist couples Michael and Anna Ancher and Marie.
