The Max Weber Study Edition (MWS) aims to make the writings and speeches of Max Weber accessible to a broader audience based on the secure textual foundation of the Max Weber Complete Edition (MWG), while forgoing the editorial apparatus. However, it is designed in such a way that users can always refer back to the MWG. Therefore, the study edition consistently follows the text constitution and arrangement of the texts as presented in the MWG. This volume presents seven posthumous texts by Max Weber on the topic of 'Communities,' which were intended for his major unfinished work 'Economy and Society.' They introduce the fundamental forms of human coexistence and economic activity and address the development from the family to the business and ultimately to political communities. For the forms of community, Max Weber denies any necessity of a teleological 'sequence of stages.'.
