Product details
Recently, Maximilian I has gained the interest of research as a media emperor and director at a turning point in history. This volume focuses on the royal court as a place of cultural perception of transfers, as well as translation and the transformation of identities. As the court of travel became multi-faceted in its acculturation, the contributions increasingly include not only Burgundy but also the southern regions of Europe. In this context, the court of Bianca Maria Sforza, along with her spheres of action and the theme of gender, constitutes a significant part of the book. In light of the dynastic Habsburg expansion, integration issues arose. With regard to the new global intensification, the imperial self-understanding also needed to be redefined. Concerning the shaping of memoria, Maximilian presented himself as a "guiding figure" for contemporary rulers. The contributions from 23 researchers further enrich the discussion.
