Meditation means practice. It is about practicing that technique – in the Greek sense of téchne, meaning art – to direct one's gaze into the well of death, but also to linger there until one can hear the refreshing gurgle of living water from the depths of that shaft. It is about life! The meditator must gradually "shed all burdens" as they sink deeper: "hatred, injustice, envy, indifference, desire, and the pursuit of money, but above all the self, the heaviest and most deceptive of veils." This shedding is a liberation, for only in this way can they gain that inner lightness that allows them to soar into those spheres where life can acquire a new quality.
