Shortly before his death, Buñuel's autobiography was published, which the screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière recorded after long conversations with the director. Buñuel was one of the most significant film directors of the last century, having witnessed the early days of cinema and being part of the artistic avant-garde of the 1920s and 30s. In his autobiography, he shares which of his films he particularly loved, how they were created, and how differently they were received. He reflects on his feelings in old age, his favorite bars and drinks, friendships, his relationship with the Communist Party, as well as themes of eroticism, sexuality, and his relationship with death.
