My Schiller? Why actually? And since when? I love Schiller, I have loved him since my youth, if not since my childhood. I love the poet of freedom. I admire the committed writer who wanted to achieve something, to make an impact with each of his literary and philosophical works. I revere the greatest of German playwrights, whose dramas showed me what the stage is capable of. I have a weakness for many of his witty poems, especially for his magnificent ballad "The Cranes of Ibycus." His work opened my eyes: Schiller was the first poet who made me sense and perhaps even understand in my early youth that literature is a critique of society, indeed a critique of life. Thus, he became my Schiller.
