The central position of the Doctrine of Virtue (1797), the second part of the Metaphysics of Morals, is often overlooked within Kant's moral philosophy. However, it becomes evident that this late work nullifies the criticism that Kant's ethics ends in formalism and is incapable of providing a foundation for material duties. The third, revised and improved edition includes several emendations and corrections that correspond to the latest editorial standards, a revised introduction by the editor, and an updated bibliography.
