Product details

Mel Bochner (*1940) is one of the founding figures of conceptual art. He belongs to the New York artist generation that grappled with the proclaimed end of painting in the 1960s. Bochner was one of the first to incorporate language into the visual space. He employs a variety of systems in his work to create structures: numbers, dimensions, sequences, repetitions. While color may seem like an unusual starting point to explore the life’s work of this particular artist, the installations, photographs, sculptures, and paintings, as well as the latest thesaurus paintings, demonstrate that color has always been a concern for Mel Bochner. This publication accompanies the artist's first comprehensive exhibition in Europe. Notable experts shed light on the artist's oeuvre: Achim Borchardt-Hume examines the role of color in Bochner's latest works.
