Once again, Ilse Helbich has compiled the notes from the last two years, her comments on aging, her self-observations, and records into a new volume. At the center is a specific phenomenon that the author perceives in many forms and in different places, which is reflected in the title "Meltings": In her old age, she intensely perceives the character of the transition between different life phases, between memories and dreams; one flows into the other and transforms as if under great heat. A visit to Dresden brings to her attention another dimension of melting under great heat: the rebuilt Frauenkirche reminds her of the entire unresolved, insurmountable complex of actions of her generation.
