This is the story of the German Hans Schiller and his two sons, Rachel and Malrich. The brothers grew up far from their parents in the Paris suburbs. They have remained in France. Rachel has made a career for himself: he has a good job, a small house, a car, a wife, and French citizenship. His younger brother Malrich stands on the fringes of society: without education, without a job, and without prospects, he lives as a member of his multicultural clique in the suburbs. When the brothers' parents are brutally killed in an Islamist attack in distant Algeria, their lives are thrown into turmoil. The grief over their parents also brings to light a shocking realization: the father, whom they had known as a highly respected hero of the Algerian independence struggle, has an unbearable past.
