Product details

In social work, there has been an increasing focus on spatial orientation in various contexts and perspectives in recent years. This is particularly evident in the inflationary use of the terms social space, social space reference, and social space orientation. Consequently, the question of what is actually meant by social space has gained prominence. At the same time, there is a growing emphasis on verifying and clarifying the quantitative and qualitative methods for capturing, representing, and analyzing spaces, as well as determining which methods should be used when, in what combination, and for what purpose, and what the results can tell us. Both the conceptualization of social space and the application of spatially related methods should be viewed in relation to one another. The book "Methodical Perspectives on Theories of Social Space" draws attention to this still underexplored field by examining three spatial theories—Lefebvre's theory of the production of space, Bourdieu's concept of social space, and Harvey's general matrix of spatiality—regarding their operationalization through methods for capturing, representing, and analyzing spatial data. Specifically, methods from the fields of geographic information systems and data mining are also considered.
