Estimates suggest that during World War II, several tens of thousands of Germans decided to support Jewish victims in their flight from deportation. How can the emergence of this form of resistance in the land of the perpetrators be explained? This study invites readers to follow step by step how the practice of assistance unfolded. It becomes clear that sometimes quite trivial circumstances initiated the process. At the same time, contradictions in the behavior of the helpers emerge, which challenge our notions of the nature of good.
