Product details
For some, it was a pact with the devil; for others, it offered a chance to escape Nazi Germany. The Haavara Agreement, negotiated in 1933 between German civil servants and official representatives of the Jewish community in Palestine, enabled thousands of Jews to make a costly escape from the brown terror and start a new life in the Promised Land. This emigration procedure could be practiced until the outbreak of the war, made possible only by the persistent resistance of a few against the attempts of the SD and NSDAP to abolish the process. Hardly anyone knows the names of the responsible German officials to whom the Haavara arrangements are attributed. This book seeks to honor their contribution.
