The role of the German Reichsbahn in the Third Reich is largely known, unlike the resistance from railway union members. Based on new sources, the authors reconstruct the persecution and resistance of union-organized railway workers after 1933. The focus is primarily on the free trade union resistance, but also includes that of communist, Christian, and Hirsch-Duncker railway union members, as well as members of professional associations.
