During the Cold War, it was not just the Western world and the Eastern bloc that faced each other. Rather, the competition between systems also had a significant impact on the so-called Third World in the global South, where most of the bloody proxy wars were fought. At the same time, the systemic conflict had a lasting influence on the societies in both East and West. The contributions in this volume examine the beginnings, course, and end of the Cold War from both global and local perspectives. The different viewpoints also help to gain a better historical understanding of current issues.
