Secret field police, Wehrmacht prisons, special units, penal camps, probation battalions - the judicial organization of the Wehrmacht maintained an extensive system to punish and stigmatize the persecuted. Tens of thousands of death sentences and hundreds of thousands of prison sentences are the result of this apparatus, whose power even surpassed that of the Ministry of Justice with its political special courts. The study deals with the rise of Wehrmacht justice and the feverishly pursued mobilization plans of the "terrible jurists" up to the bloody finale, in which the previous desk perpetrators sometimes acted personally as both judges and executioners.
