Product details

This is a true story, almost forgotten today, from World War I. Wilhelm Wassmuss, born in 1880 as the son of a farmer in the Vorharz region, was the consul in Buschir on the Persian Gulf in 1914. All warring parties at that time tried to strike the enemy at sensitive points. The uprising of the Arab tribes against the Ottoman Empire, instigated by T. E. Lawrence, is still remembered today. Imperial Germany, for its part, sought to incite a revolution in British India. The so-called Afghanistan Expedition failed, but Wilhelm Wassmuss managed, standing alone, to persuade the tribes of Southern Persia to engage in guerrilla warfare against the British and ultimately to control an area the size of France. In Iran, he is still held in high regard as a champion of Persian independence. After the war, he returned to his "fairy tale land." The model estate he created, Tschagodek, became a model for the further development of agriculture in the Gulf region.
