Since its renaissance in the 1990s, pop literature has been very present in the cultural sections of newspapers and in universities. This volume describes the American Beat and underground scene, as well as the debates surrounding pop art and pop music, and shows how these influences particularly affected German-language literature in the 1960s through the mediation of Rolf Dieter Brinkmann. Extensive chapters explain pop theory and the poetics of pop literature. This is followed by individual chapters on the works of Rainald Goetz, Thomas Meinecke, Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre, Christian Kracht, and Sybille Berg, as well as contemporary pop literature.
