The conference, whose contributions are presented in this volume, had a threefold objective: First, it aimed to provide participants with the opportunity to confront the challenges of an immigration society, i.e., the migration-related demands on educational and social institutions. This was intended to formulate two criteria for the reform of these institutions and to discuss deficiencies in accordance with them. Thirdly, positive examples were to be presented to provide impulses for innovative practice. Accordingly, the reader will find two categories of contributions: first, texts that develop and theoretically justify quality criteria for institutions in the context of migration, and second, those that are based on empirical research or expert knowledge.
