Product details
Hundreds of thousands have left Eritrea since the suppression of the democratic movement in 2001, embarking on often years-long journeys into the unknown. This journey usually passes through neighboring countries such as Ethiopia or Sudan, with the destination almost always being Europe or North America. Migrants often find themselves forced to circumvent formalities along the way, as residence permits or entry visas are not easily granted. In his study, Magnus Treiber describes emigration as a learning process in which migrants adopt both legal and illegal strategies. The hope for a better life in a different future leads to a unique culture of migration, characterized by extreme stress, feelings of uncertainty, and social tension.
