This specialized book places the highly relevant topic of flight within larger theoretical contexts. It outlines the most important global refugee movements and migration routes, as well as regional hotspots, from a European and particularly Swiss perspective. Economic causes contribute to migration and flight, but war, violence, and natural disasters also lead to an increasing number of people leaving their homes. Alongside survival questions, the desire for a better life often serves as motivation. In contrast to earlier representations in migration research, Swiss author Christian J. Jäggi does not assume linear migration patterns but rather simultaneous, bilocal forms of living. The economic implications of migration and flight for migrants, as well as for both the countries of origin and the host countries, are presented. Additionally, international and global strategies and solutions are analyzed.
