"Can the subaltern speak?" asks Gayatri Spivak in one of the key texts of postcolonial theory. Her answer is not very optimistic: the "foreign" woman remains merely represented and, as this "Other," has no voice. The authors examine the phenomenon of migration in its gender-specific contexts from an interdisciplinary perspective. They discuss the various interconnections between cultural difference and gender difference. Questions of intersectionality are illuminated, as well as the development from multi- to inter- to transcultural perspectives and the diverse relationships between mobility and gender.
