In the field of psychiatry, a remarkable transformation has taken place over the last three decades, driven on one hand by the introduction of psychotropic medications in the treatment of psychoses, and on the other hand by the development of social psychiatry and the incorporation of psychotherapeutic treatment methods. It is particularly thanks to social psychiatry that a new spirit of liberalization and humanization has emerged in psychiatric hospitals and clinics, allowing for the promotion of new ways of interacting with hospitalized individuals suffering from mental illnesses. Furthermore, efforts have been initiated to complement the inpatient care of those with mental illnesses and addictions with semi-inpatient and outpatient facilities and services of various kinds. This marks the realization of new social psychiatric ideas within psychiatry.
