Ironside: The History of the English Civil War, by Axel Oprotkowitz and Hagen Seehase. This book is the only modern German-language monograph on the English Civil War from a military historical perspective. It describes the political and economic background, as well as the religious and social circumstances. The events on the Irish and Scottish battlefields are also included. One chapter is dedicated to the weapons and equipment used, considering tactical and military sociological aspects. The core of the book consists of detailed battle descriptions (with sketches). It is richly illustrated, featuring contemporary portraits and depictions of battle sites. Eleven large-format and several smaller color images of reenactors complete the book, making it a visually engaging journey into the 17th century.
