Mathematics is ubiquitous. It is present in every milk carton and every Kinder Surprise egg. It has its roots in the knowledge advancements of evolution and civilization, and it facilitates our daily lives in many ways. Mathematics is not an isolated area of thought but part of a helpful cognitive structure. Nevertheless, it is often associated with fear and is perceived by many as disconnected from real life. Math is seen as something that is only accessible to certain people. The starting point of the considerations underlying this book is a paradigm shift that, in the author's opinion, has been insufficiently examined: Until the 1980s, mathematics was a form of knowledge reserved for the elite. Those who struggled in class were simply deemed to lack the necessary talent. However, since then, there have been increasingly numerous and sophisticated efforts in mathematics education that have made math more child-friendly, motivating, and diverse.
