Product details

The first volume of this planned four-volume history of early Christianity covers the path and work of Jesus against the backdrop of contemporary Judaism in Palestine. Martin Hengel and Anna Maria Schwemer first examine Jesus' Galilean origins and then address his relationship with John the Baptist as well as the historical context of his ministry. This is followed by the form of his proclamation and its content, which is determined by the coming of God's kingdom, the divine will, and the love of the Father. Other focal points include Jesus as a miracle worker and the controversial issue of his messianic claim, which cannot be limited to the question of title. The volume concludes with the final struggle in Jerusalem, his passion, and the appearances of the risen one.
