Volume 7 of the HKW includes four writings from the final years of the formative phase of Pure Legal Doctrine. They document Kelsen's broad spectrum of interests and activities, both in disciplinary and regional terms. In addition to the second report on Austria's constitutional situation in the Yearbook for Public Law, the volume contains Kelsen's search for positions regarding central sociological, (social) psychological, and theological interpretative approaches. As stated in the subtitle of the groundbreaking monograph "The Sociological and the Legal Concept of the State," it always involves a critical examination of the relationship between the state and law. The discussions on Sigmund Freud's theory of the masses, as well as the parallels between God and the state or theology and (state) legal science, are part of broader controversies.
