He is chosen as a morally upright leader but becomes nothing more than a ruthless henchman of the murder of Jews: the Styrian farmer's son Franz Murer, trained at the NS Ordensburg Krössinsee, establishes a true reign of terror in the ghetto of Wilna. His brutality and sadism are feared, with women and children being his preferred victims. The man who sends thousands of Jews to their deaths without remorse wants nothing to do with these crimes after the war; the state treaty saves him from 25 years of forced labor, to which a military court in Wilna had sentenced him. His trial at the Graz Regional Court becomes a scandal in 1963.
