Product details

The Solothurn composer Hermann Meier (1906-2002) pursued visionary ideas in his work. In the 1950s, he distanced himself from established avant-garde techniques and imagined his "Mondrian Music" through large-format composition plans, creating a musical "architectonics with rectangular fields." Rarely performed during his lifetime, Meier is now being recognized as an important representative of the avant-garde in Switzerland. Composer Hermann Meier was an artist who was both unconventional and original. Although he lived as a village schoolteacher in the remote Zullwil (Canton of Solothurn), he followed current artistic movements with great attention. Starting from his own serial theory, Meier moved away from melodic composition techniques in the 1950s and worked with sharply defined sound surfaces. In his old age, he spent years exclusively composing electronic music.
