Product details

The Hooting Fish is a collection of 155 Chinese stories for everyday life, which is also available as an eBook. In the mentality of ancient China, for example through animal metaphors, they recount the lives of people in the Middle Kingdom with surreal imagination. With the help of this estranging artistic device, the author attempts to subtly and profoundly expose moral behavior in modern Western society. This is particularly evident in the relationships between the small group of storks above (authority figures, lords, officials, bureaucrats) and the large group of frogs below (the subjects). The Chinese names have been invented by the author. If they were real and pronounced in the correct tones, a high-ranking official could be a friend of the turtle (Kuei-peng) and an imperial chancellor could be the soft gourd (Kua).
