The photographer Max has fled to the nameless, vast Midwest of America - escaping from his entire past life, especially from Elsa, whom he loves, whom he destroys, who destroys him. Lonely despite his encounter with the waitress Karen, he resides in a motel room in the desolate landscape and reflects on his past - his father, his stepmother Marie, Elsa, and his lover Vanessa. For a long time, Max has been grappling with his inner monster and the monstrous things surrounding him; and yet: A happy ending for him and Elsa seemed possible... Isabella Feimer tells a still-standing road movie with partly crystal-clear, partly surreal images, edited with sharp cuts into narrative pieces of a dark, sexually charged story, a literary neo-noir.
